Hot dogs are one of the best American fast foods. The composition of the hot dog is very simple and yet super delicious. In this recipe, the classic hot dog is complemented with caramelized onions, which give it a savory, aromatic flavor.

  • 30 g butter
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 onions
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 100 ml cider, dry
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar, brown
  • 4 hot dog, sausages
  • 4 hot Dog, rolls
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise


  1. Peel the onions and cut into half rings.
  2. Crush lightly with your hands with a pinch of salt.
  3. Heat the butter and vegetable oil in a frying pan on medium-high.
  4. Caramelize the onions, about 25-30 minutes.
  5. Stir occasionally.
  6. Deglaze with apple cider.
  7. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes, until the wine has completely evaporated.
  8. Remove the pan from the heat.
  9. Mix the onions with the vinegar and sugar.
  10. The hot dog sausages Cook in a saucepan of hot water for about 5 minutes.
  11. Meanwhile, cut the hot dog buns lengthways, but not all the way through.
  12. Remove the sausages from the water.
  13. Dry on a plate.
  14. Mix the mustard with the mayonnaise for the dip in a small bowl.
  15. Put a sausage in each bun.
  16. Top the hot dogs with the dip.
  17. Sprinkle with the caramelized onions and enjoy.
