Ingredients

  • 1 head red cabbage
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 20 g ginger, fresh
  • chili pepper, to taste
  • 4 star anise
  • 4-5 tbsp rice wine vinegar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2-3 tbsp powdered sugar
  • salt, to taste Flavor
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2-3 sprigs coriander
  • sesame, to taste, optional
  • chives, to taste, optional

Utensils

  • Deep Frying Pan
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Grater

Instructions

  1. Chop the red cabbage.
  2. Peel the garlic and ginger and grate finely.
  3. De-seed the chilli and cut into small pieces.
  4. Mix all the ingredients together in a deep pan, except the sesame oil and coriander.
  5. All under a lid, cook over low heat, about 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Once the liquid has evaporated from the pan and the cabbage is soft and shiny, remove the pan from the heat.
  7. Sprinkle with chopped cilantro and drizzle with sesame oil.
  8. Add sesame seeds and chopped chives to the red cabbage and serve.
