Chinese-style braised red cabbage with ginger and garlic
Ingredients
- 1 head red cabbage
- 4 garlic cloves
- 20 g ginger, fresh
- chili pepper, to taste
- 4 star anise
- 4-5 tbsp rice wine vinegar
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 2-3 tbsp powdered sugar
- salt, to taste Flavor
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 2-3 sprigs coriander
- sesame, to taste, optional
- chives, to taste, optional
Utensils
- Deep Frying Pan
- Knife
- Cutting Board
- Grater
Instructions
- Chop the red cabbage.
- Peel the garlic and ginger and grate finely.
- De-seed the chilli and cut into small pieces.
- Mix all the ingredients together in a deep pan, except the sesame oil and coriander.
- All under a lid, cook over low heat, about 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Once the liquid has evaporated from the pan and the cabbage is soft and shiny, remove the pan from the heat.
- Sprinkle with chopped cilantro and drizzle with sesame oil.
- Add sesame seeds and chopped chives to the red cabbage and serve.
