Bread Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream - Sweet bread casserole for dessert

Bread pudding is a simple traditional European dessert. The thawed vanilla ice cream is whisked with eggs and sugar and poured over the bread cubes – the original dessert is ready. It can be modified individually with nuts and dried fruit. This is a great way to use up stale bread!

Ingredients

  • 500 g vanilla ice cream
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 450 g baguette, or toast
  • 4 eggs
  • 150 g sugar
  • nuts, to taste
  • raisins, to taste
  • mint leaves, to decorate

Instructions

  1. Thaw the vanilla ice cream.
  2. Grease the casserole dish.
  3. Cut the toast or baguette into 2-3 cm cubes and place in the casserole dish.
  4. In a bowl, whisk the eggs, ice cream and sugar together.
  5. Then pour over the bread rolls, stir and leave to stand for approx. 15 minutes.
  6. Then bake in the oven at 180° C for approx. 30-35 minutes.
  7. To make the bread pudding even tastier, you can add nuts and /or sprinkle with raisins.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving and garnish with mint leaves.
