Braised mackerel with vegetables and tomato paste

Braised mackerel with greens and tomato paste is a wonderful and simple dish for seafood lovers. Carrots, onions and tomato sauce make the fish very tasty and flavorful. First, the vegetables are fried. Then add mackerel and tomato paste mixed in water. Let simmer for a while and then serve.

  • 3 mackerel
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1-2 carrots
  • 1-2 onions
  • 2-3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 300ml water
  • 3- 4 black peppercorns
  • 3-4 peppercorns, allspice


  1. Rinse the mackerel, remove the head, tail and fins.
  2. Wash the fish and cut into large pieces.
  3. Salt and pepper.
  4. Peel the vegetables.
  5. Roughly grate the carrots.
  6. Cut the onions into small pieces.
  7. Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.
  8. Fry the carrots and onions for about 5 minutes.
  9. Add the fish to the vegetables.
  10. Mix the tomato paste with the water and add to the pan.
  11. Add the peppercorns.
  12. Bring to the boil , simmer over medium heat under a lid for about 30 minutes.
  13. Remove the stewed mackerel from the heat and serve immediately.
