Banana split with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce

Banana splits is a typical American dessert with ice cream. Here’s the classic version of the banana split, made with a peeled banana, sliced lengthwise, topped with scoops of vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce. The dessert is sprinkled with chocolate sprinkles and garnished with wafer rolls.

  • 2 bananas
  • vanilla ice cream, to taste
  • 2 chocolate wafers
  • chocolate sprinkles, to taste

Caramel sauce

  • 80 g sugar
  • 20 g butter
  • 100 ml cream
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • vanilla, to taste


  1. Slowly heat the sugar in a saucepan until it is golden brown, but do not stir.
  2. Add the butter and immediately afterwards the cream.
  3. Stir the caramel sauce gently and bring to the boil again while stirring.
  4. Let it cool down.
  5. The Halve the banana lengthways and place on a plate.
  6. Place 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream in the middle and spread the caramel sauce on top.
  7. You can serve split bananas with chocolate sprinkles or rolled wafers.

When adding cream to the caramel, the caramel may not bond immediately, just keep stirring slowly until you see a bond. Banana splits make a healthy snack with a fruity note of berries and yoghurt!
