Asian chicken meatballs in sweet and sour sauce

Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 450g chicken mince
  • 1 egg
  • 2-3 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • Salt, to taste
  • Ground black pepper, to taste

Sweet and sour sauce

  • 120ml pineapple juice
  • 60 ml soy sauce
  • ½ tbsp sriracha sauce, or other hot sauce
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • ½ tbsp starch
  • 2 tbsp water

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. In a bowl, mix the ground chicken with the egg, flour and 1 tablespoon ketchup.
  4. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Out of the Form the meat mixture into 18-20 small meatballs.
  6. Place the meatballs on the baking sheet and cook in the oven for about 15 minutes.
  7. In a small bowl, mix together the pineapple juice, soy sauce, sriracha sauce, sesame oil, 1 tablespoon ketchup and rice vinegar.
  8. Pour the sauce base into a heated pan and bring to a boil.
  9. Let simmer over low heat for 4 minutes.
  10. Mix the starch in 2 tablespoons of cold water and add to the pan with the sweet and sour sauce.
  11. Mix the contents of the pan well stir and increase the heat.
  12. Let simmer over medium-high heat for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring, and the mixture should thicken.
  13. Remove the meatballs from the oven and add to the pan.
  14. Stir the meatballs and simmer for 3 to 4 minutes cook it in the sweet and sour sauce.

Tip

Meatballs can be served with rice or pasta, for example.
